HOW TO INSTALL iGRiP RS MODEL STUDS

STEP 1, RS STUD INSTALLATION

The RS model is a competition stud designed to provide maximum grip in demanding conditions. Its tungsten carbide tip promotes traction and wear resistance. Its fastening system includes a 1/4-inch NF thread, internal and external sealing gaskets, and a rear support plate.

BEFORE INSTALLATION :

  1. Prepare a clean, uncluttered work area, then clean the tire.

  2. Determine the installation pattern and mark the stud locations using a suitable marking pencil.

  3. Prepare a cordless drill and a 1/4-inch carbide drill bit, in accordance with the installation guide.

  4. Drill the tire at a 90-degree angle at the marked locations, avoiding the tire's tread lines. Do not force the drill bit if it does not penetrate properly.

  5. Raise the tire to a suitable working height and prepare its inner surface by sanding it to obtain a smooth surface. The sanded area must extend beyond the diameter of the rear plate.

  6. Prepare the RS studs, sealing gaskets, steel backing plates, and nuts.

STUD INSTALLATION :

  1. Install the sealing gaskets on the rear plate, ensuring they are correctly positioned.

  2. Fit a 7/16-inch socket onto the installation tool and insert the RS stud into the socket.

  3. Position the tool at a 90-degree angle to the tire and apply light pressure to help the stud penetrate. Do not force it if it does not enter properly.

  4. From inside the tire, install the rear plate with the sealing gaskets correctly positioned. Ensure there is no debris between the mating surfaces.

  5. Install the nut and tighten it using the appropriate tool. Hold the stud head with a 7/16-inch wrench or socket, according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Important: Tightening must be performed using the nut, not by rotating the stud head. This helps limit friction-generated heat, which could compromise the seal.

STEP 2, FUNCTION AND QUALITY CONTROL

The RS stud is designed to improve tire grip in competition applications and demanding conditions. Its tungsten carbide tip provides excellent wear resistance. Its fastening system, featuring sealing gaskets and a rear plate, helps keep the stud in place while minimizing the risk of air leaks when properly installed.

QUALITY CONTROL AFTER INSTALLATION

  1. Measure the height of the stud's threaded section inside the tire after tightening. The measurement must be between 6 and 9 mm.

  2. Measure the height of the rear plate inside the tire. The measurement must be between 3 and 5 mm.

  3. If the measurements fall outside these ranges, check the position of the sealing gaskets and ensure there is no debris between the mating surfaces.

  4. Perform quality control checks on at least two studs per tire.

  5. Conduct a final visual inspection to confirm that the studs are correctly positioned.

  6. After mounting the tire and inflating it to the specified pressure, apply soapy water to check for potential air leaks.

CUSTOMER RESPONSE GUIDELINES

When responding to a customer regarding the RS model:

  • Explain that the RS is a tire stud intended for applications, particularly competition, that require high levels of grip.

  • Describe the purpose of the tungsten carbide tip, threaded section, sealing gaskets, and rear plate.

  • If the customer asks how to install the studs, explain the tire preparation, drilling, installation of the gaskets and rear plate, and final tightening using the nut.

  • Remind the customer not to rotate the stud head during tightening.

  • For quality control questions, provide the documented measurement ranges: 6 to 9 mm for the threaded section height and 3 to 5 mm for the rear plate height.

  • Recommend checking at least two studs per tire and testing for air leaks with soapy water after inflation to the specified pressure.

  • If the customer asks about the installation pattern, number of studs, exact size, or compatibility with a specific tire, request the necessary information before recommending a configuration.

  • Never guarantee that an installation will be leak-free or compatible without verification.

  • For any questions not covered by these instructions, recommend consulting the official guide or the iGrip Industries technical support team.
